Teargas Tears

“Teargas Tears” song notes

“Teargas Tears” was written in response to the summer of 2020 riots following the brutal death of George Floyd. The country was hurting from this, and the added isolation, and trauma from the beginnings of the Covid epidemic, with ensuing hopelessness, tragedy and death, added to the desperation that was felt worldwide. It is an observational story song, and unfortunately, still rings with worldwide relevance year after year. It is also my intent for people to develop camaraderie, and to speak up, when and as necessary, Talk to people about what you agree or disagree with, and do not be silent.

TEARGAS TEARS

TEARGAS TEARS ON THE SIDEWALK

PEOPLE GATHERED ROUND, WITH THEIR ARMS LOCKED

I’M STANDING NEXT TO YOU, ON A SUMMERY NIGHT

RED LIGHTS FLASHING, WINDOWS CRASHING,

SIRENS BLASTING, BLUE MEN ARE DASHING,

SURROUNDING US, ON A SUMMERY NIGHT

USE YOUR VOICE, KNOW YOU NEED TO

(WE’LL) SHOUT OUT LOUD, KNOW WE NEED TO,

STAND BY ME, YOU KNOW I NEED YOU TOO,

SICK AS I CAN BE, I CAN HARDLY BREATHE,

GASOLINE BOMBS, IN THE BREEZE,

BULLETS FLY BY, ON A SUMMERY NIGHT

IF IT’S A GOOD DAY TO DIE, I’M IN THE RIGHT PLACE,

STILL HAVE HOPE, FOR THE HUMAN RACE,

WHEN I’M STANDING NEXT TO YOU, ON A SUMMERY NIGHT,

USE YOUR VOICE, YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO,

SHOUT OUT LOUD, YOU KNOW WE NEED TO,

STAND BY ME, YOU KNOW I NEED YOU, TOO

TEARGAS TEARS, ON THE SIDEWALK,

PEOPLE GATHERED ROUND, WITH THEIR ARMS LOCKED,

STANDING NEXT TO YOU, ON A SUMMERY NIGHT
