Confessional

“Confessional” song notes

“Confessional” describes a scene where the sheriff, who has been out of control, has a transitory lucid moment, and realizes he has caused grief, and harm to others. He has a moment of consciousness that stirs his morality, and he confesses his wrongdoings to a person he imagines is a priest, and maybe that is true, or maybe it’s just another intoxicated person in a bar/saloon. In doing so, he is not able to hear anything positive about life, or that he will be ok. He is wanting to confess with out any repercussions from society at large. It is also intended as a questioning view of traditional religion, and a statement that spirituality may just as simple as, it will be wherever one finds it. One could confess to a tree, or a frog, or a geode, or a drug addict, and they could feel absolved from sin.

CONFESSIONAL”
(Chapter 4)

I WOKE UP ON A BAR STOOL,

I WAS TALKING TO SOME OLD FOOL,

HE WAS A PRIEST, AND A DRUNK ONE,

I HAD TO CONFESS TO SOMEONE,

THE RIVER IT FLOWS,

THE SUN ALWAYS GLOWS, AFTER THE DARKEST DAY,

PEACE AND LOVE,

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER

JUST CAN’T, JUST CAN’T HEAR THAT SHIT TODAY,

THE PRIEST SAID GOD FORGIVES YOU,

YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR PATH,

I SAID I COMMITTED THE WORST SINS,

MURDERS IN A RAGEFUL WRATH,

THE RIVER IT FLOWS,

THE SUN ALWAYS GLOWS, AFTER THE DARKEST DAYS,

PEACE AND LOVE,

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER,

JUST CAN’T, JUST CAN’T HEAR THAT SHIT TODAY,

HIS TREMBLING HANDS HELD MY HANDS,

A RUSTED CROSS AROUND HIS NECK,

HIS BLOODSHOT EYES ROLLED BACKWARDS,

AS HE PASSED OUT,… HE SAID,…… YOU ARE BLESSED

THE RIVER IT FLOWS,

THE SUN ALWAYS GLOWS, AFTER THE DARKEST DAYS,

PEACE AND LOVE,

WHAT DOESN’T KILL YOU MAKES YOU STRONGER

I JUST HAD, JUST HAD TO CONFESS TODAY
